Nvidia is upgrading its G-Assist AI assistant on Windows, taking it beyond its initial focus on optimizing game and system settings. Originally launched just last month, G-Assist was a chatbot primarily designed to enhance PC gaming. Now, with the introduction of plugin support, it offers a broader range of features, including integration with Spotify, Twitch, weather updates, and stock tracking.

New Plugin Builder Empowers Customization

The new ChatGPT-based plugin builder allows developers and enthusiasts to extend G-Assist’s functionality. By connecting to external tools and utilizing APIs, these plugins give users even more ways to interact with the AI assistant. Nvidia has already made several sample plugins available on GitHub, enabling easy customization and integration.

Here are some of the key plugins available for G-Assist:

  • Spotify: Control music and volume hands-free.
  • Google Gemini: Invoke Gemini for complex cloud-based conversations.
  • Twitch: Use voice commands to check if a streamer is live, like “Hey, Twitch, is [streamer] live?”
  • Peripheral Controls: Adjust RGB lighting or fan speed on devices like Logitech G, Corsair, MSI, and Nanoleaf.
  • Stock Checker: Get real-time stock prices.
  • Weather Updates: Check current weather conditions in any city.

Local Processing for Seamless Experience

All of these plugins run locally on Nvidia’s RTX GPUs using a small language model, making the AI assistant faster and more efficient. Developers can also share their custom plugins through GitHub, further expanding the possibilities for G-Assist. The assistant, which requires nearly 10GB of space, works with a range of RTX 30, 40, and 50-series desktop GPUs. However, you’ll need a GPU with at least 12GB of VRAM for full functionality.

For users interested in experiencing G-Assist or creating their own plugins, the app is available as an optional feature through Nvidia’s main app for Windows.
