As the EV revolution gains momentum, one critical challenge continues to stall progress: charging infrastructure. SparkCharge, a trailblazer in mobile EV charging, is addressing this head-on by bringing fast, flexible, and scalable solutions to underserved areas and commercial fleets.
While the global EV market is forecast to grow at over 23% CAGR through 2030, over 40% of U.S. counties still lack access to public DC fast charging, according to the International Energy Agency. That infrastructure gap is a serious hurdle for fleet operators, delivery networks, and rideshare companies seeking sustainable solutions. SparkCharge’s approach—off-grid, on-demand charging—eliminates the need for costly grid upgrades or long permitting timelines.
To meet growing demand, SparkCharge has secured $30.5 million to scale its Charging-as-a-Service (CaaS) platform across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. The latest round includes a $15.5 million Series A-1 equity raise and a $15 million venture loan facility from Horizon Technology Finance Corporation, bringing total funding to $55 million.
The round was led by Monte’s Fam, with participation from Collab Capital, Cleveland Avenue, Elemental Excelerator, Non-sibi Ventures, and MarcyPen. The company also landed non-dilutive equipment financing through CSC Leasing, allowing for aggressive hardware expansion without diluting shareholder equity.
Funds will be used to expand SparkCharge’s team, enhance its mobile charging network, and support new partnerships across logistics, OEMs, transportation hubs, and autonomous vehicle services.
The Spark Behind SparkCharge: Founder Josh Aviv
Founded in 2017 by Josh Aviv, SparkCharge was born from a personal mission to solve a major barrier in EV adoption: lack of accessible, reliable charging. Aviv, an economics and energy policy graduate from Syracuse University, credits his grandfather’s freight logistics business and a pivotal classroom moment for sparking the idea.
His startup began with roadside charging and evolved into a full-service charging platform for fleets, events, and emergency response. Under his leadership, SparkCharge has built a reputation for innovation, flexibility, and impact—backed by high-profile moments like introducing President Biden at the CHIPS and Science Act signing and recognition from EY and Forbes.
What SparkCharge Offers: Charging-as-a-Service at Scale
SparkCharge’s CaaS model offers modular, off-grid, and permanent EV charging options that bypass traditional infrastructure bottlenecks. Its key solutions include:
Mobile Battery Charging Units (80–300 kW): Rapid deployment for fleets and events, with white-glove or self-managed service options.
Off-Grid Power Hubs (180–500 kW): Clean energy-powered fast chargers with microgrid tech for multi-EV charging and high uptime.
Permanent EV Infrastructure: Turnkey grid-connected stations that evolve from mobile deployments.
The company’s proprietary Roadie portable fast charger and BoostEV app make on-demand charging as easy as ordering food or a rideshare—now available in over a dozen U.S. cities. SparkCharge has delivered over 4 million kWh and displaced more than 500,000 gallons of gasoline to date.
Why SparkCharge Stands Out
In a field crowded with infrastructure-heavy players like BP Pulse and Yoshi Mobility, SparkCharge’s zero setup costs, instant deployment, and mobility are game-changers. Its chargers can be stacked, scaled, or moved—ideal for ports, temporary fleet hubs, or remote events.
With 87% of fleet operators planning to adopt EVs within five years, SparkCharge offers a fast lane to electrification without waiting on the grid.
Recent milestones include its appointment as official EV charging partner of the 2025 Masters Tournament and a strategic partnership with Pioneer Power—a testament to its growing market presence.
With fresh capital and a strong investor coalition, SparkCharge is ready to lead in next-gen EV infrastructure. Its vision? To provide reliable, portable EV charging anywhere it’s needed—turning every parking spot, depot, or roadside into a fast-charging opportunity.
“This raise reflects both the strength of the SparkCharge growth story and the market opportunity ahead,” said Josh Aviv, Founder and CEO. “We’re eliminating the guesswork and delays that still slow down EV adoption. Our market-ready solutions are ideal for fleets aiming to cut costs and boost efficiency.”
“We’re excited by the progress we’ve made as the first to market with an off-grid EV charging network,” added David Piperno, SparkCharge CFO.
Investor confidence is also high. “SparkCharge’s breakthrough charging technology offers a portable solution in a market dominated by slower, costlier fixed infrastructure,” said Gerald Michaud, President of Horizon. “We’re thrilled to support their growth.”
